The thing is, this tactic seems to work. Obama has pledged to avoid ';sound bite'; politicking in The Audacity of Hope and he has so far managed to rise above the fray. The tough thing is that it is a waste of resources - both money and the airtime the media gives him - if he spends the rest of the days between now and the election on the defensive.





That's what Rove and Bush did to Kerry (Swiftboat Veterans for Truth crap - Kerry spent valuable resources defending his record even though he was a freakin' war hero) and it's what they did to McCain in the 2000 South Carolina Primary (Bush' people used a tactic called push-polling to spread rumors that McCain's adopted Bangladeshi daughter was actually John's own illegitimate black child).





I didn't think McCain was a bad guy before this election - one of few Republicans I wouldn't have minded seening in the White House - but this campaign has been dirty as hell and I'm afraid that it's going to work yet again.





Crazy H - please show evidence of Obama advocating raising taxes. He supports making all of Bush's 2001-3 tax cuts permanent except for the ones which only benefit the very richest Americans. Allowing unnecessary and unfair tax cuts to expire on schedule is not the same as raising taxes.





Home-School - Obama favors a moderate increase in domestic offshore drilling, same as McCain. He is just also realistic about the fact that there isn't enough oil on American land/in American waters to supply the nation. Obama favors complimenting additional drilling with extensive investment into alternative fuels - something which will create lasting jobs and boost our economy, and which will also make us less dependent on nthe Middle East. McCain talks a lot about the environment/alternative energy, but has actually voted against it most of the time.

You raise a good point. The funny part is that Cheney and other politicians have actually used the same term in speeches they gave in the past. It's because he is a black democrat that somehow it has become a big deal.





A radio station around here played clips of various politicians who were using the exact same phrase! Then of course for humor factor they hooked up with a pig farmer and had him try to actually PUT lipstick on one of the pigs. He said ';Well, it's difficult, you sort of have to put it on the snout';. Then the radio personality asked ';Does it look any better with the lipstick on?'; and the farmer replied in his southern like drawl ';Nah, it don't really look any better but I imagine if you put a cummerbund and some Birkenstocks on it, it just might';. LOL
I hope so. It seems that anyone who had issues with that statement would have done so if even if Obama had said ';wings on a worm'; or ';sneakers on a stork';...


Hopefully, the Democrat supporters won't also get that foolish and try to make controversy over nothing.


I don't vote Democrat vs Republican. I prefer to vote for who I think is the best person for the office. If I had to vote depending on the good sense the supporters showed, right now the republicans would be getting nothing from me...
What issue can the republicans bring up that they didn't cause with the way they ran things under Bush? All they can do is make Americans hate the democrats. Seeing as more and more Americans are voting for who they hate the least, it's a good plan. But don't expect them to talk about issues.

McCain has said he wants to Debate Obama any time and any where. Obama is dragging his heels. he know his political clock is ticking. He's going to lose, big time, to McCain and he knows it.
